No one can visit Africa and return without a desire to help in some way, however small. The children in the photo below live high in the hills above Bujumbura where there is neither running water nor electricity.
Visits by educators to Burundi and Tanzania revealed enormous needs in the education systems in these two countries, and East African community members appealed to the visitors for ESL training for their teachers. Individuals were recruited in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and they determined that training primary school teachers and providing teaching materials and school furnishings were the preferred courses of action.
Fundraising efforts and a search for teachers willing to volunteer their time and experience was and continues to be the work of the Tanbur African Aid Society: TAAS.
