I recruit Canadian teachers who travel to Burundi to mentor our African teachers. I also gain financial support from varied schools, and other organizations to raise money to build a school for BES.

Barb Olynyk

I am a teacher, who is still actively substitute teaching since my retirement in 2005. In 2008, I traveled to Burundi for three months with a couple from Edmonton to help set up an English school in Bujumbura, the capital city. In 2009, I went there for another 3 month stint. It was a very rewarding experience and I am thrilled that the school now has grown from 13 students in kindergarten and grade one to 150 students in kindergarten to grade 10.

Dianne Eustace
Vice President, Retired

After 30 years of teaching children with Edmonton Public Schools, I seized upon the opportunity to act as a mentor teacher in Bujumbura, Burundi at the Burundi English School. I learned a lot about myself in the process and, as a way to continue my work, I serve on the board as Vice President.

Eugene Kuzub

After 32 years as a science educator and 5 years at the Alberta Research Council, I am pleased to serve as the current TAAS treasurer. The pinnacle of my education career is the opportunity to assist the Burundi English School Board of Trustees, staff and students in attaining their educational goals and dreams.
